The Pen is mightier than the sword, but the Pen must sometimes move the sword against corruption if the corrupt are not moved by the pen.. An idea without an implementer is useless. "The Rulers do not carry the sword in vain"Rom 13:4

Hypocritical Melbourne Churches.

Sad to say, that many so called Churches in Melbourne are more like the Pharisees that Jesus rebuked than the vibrant early Church that his crucifixion and resurrection gave birth to.

What were the characteristics of the Pharisees (and Scribes).. ?

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

We can subsitute the 'spices, mint, dill and cumin' with.. "We have our powerful sermons and our pleading prayers at our regular meetings, we enjoy Bible study, and home groups"....but in all this, they are almost 100% insulated and isolated from the rest of the community, and in particular the laws which govern us, and the processes by which those laws come to be.. ie.. a democratic society where people have the vote.

A church might have a massive building program.. one which inspires the efforts of the congregation, and brings out a degree of financial sacrifice for the bricks and mortar... but what about the purpose that the building has in the first place?  It's just  a place for God's people to meet and plan.  But do their plans and meetings stop at the doors and never venture out into the world that is increasingly surrounding them ?

This blog calls on all Churches, in particular Kilsyth South Baptist, Canterbury Gardens community Church, Stairway Church and City Life... to consider reaching out with something other than the latest version of the 4 spiritual laws.. or the social media friendly 'image management' of the Church.. beyond it's self promoting programs.. fund raising extravaganza's,  it's Youth programs, it's sunday schools... and consider also, that which will make it possible or impossible to express our faith at all!

While we have a vote.. it would be suicidal not to use it for our self protection.  This means political-ish' action.. I say 'ish' because I'm not suggesting that we all race out and start barracking for this party or that, but perhaps we can raise up an independent who shares our values and behind whom we can give our utmost to put him or her in parliament?  Think how society would be today  if William Wilberforce had succumbed to the pro slavery forces that were arrayed against him?  Surely it is inconceivable that Wilberforce was able to stand as strong as he did without the moral and spiritual backing from God's people ?

The United States Supreme court (well stacked with  Liberals by the Political Left) has just made it impossible for states to ban gay marriage.  That was the distant 'shot'....the bullet and the shockwave are yet to reach our heads but they are coming at a very high velocity.  We Christians will come under increasing pressure not to just 'accept' this profanity of marriage, but will be told we must 'celebrate' it.

Some lamentable spiritual quizzlings have already succumbed to that pressure and seem to have embraced the darkness  well before the sun showed signs of setting.  One such Church is Lilydale Baptist. Very sad indeed.
