The Pen is mightier than the sword, but the Pen must sometimes move the sword against corruption if the corrupt are not moved by the pen.. An idea without an implementer is useless. "The Rulers do not carry the sword in vain"Rom 13:4

Unrestrained, mankind is violent, primal and carnal?

Freud was convinced of it, preached it, and pontificated about it....
People like Benthem (following on from Rene Descartes) thought you could reduce all human behavior to a bunch of equations... bah!

Then we have this trendy 60s refugee professor Steve Pinker from Harvard who says:

As a young teenager in proudly peaceable Canada during the romantic 1960s, I was a true believer in Bakunin's* anarchism. I laughed off my parents' argument that if the government ever laid down its arms all hell would break loose. Our competing predictions were put to the test at 8:00 A.M. on October 17, 1969, when the Montreal police went on strike... This decisive empirical test left my politics in tatters.  (Dr Steve Pinker, Harvard)

This is the point where you ding a little gong, and unleash your most ferocious and faithful biting animal that tears my logical falacy of post hoc ergo proctor hoc to little bits.  "If this, therefore". Using the behavior of a bunch of anarchistic ratbags to judge the whole of humanity.

But here I counter with another rather obscure quote "Meni Meni tekel uparsin"...which is hebrew for "you have been measured and found wanting (and ps the Persians are coming!!) . This is the original 'writing on the wall'..... that the prophet Daniel was required to translate/interpret for King Belshazzar in Babylon.

I suggest that rather than 'not' judging humanity by the actions of some, we should indeed do just that!  I propose that the only difference between those who acted out their greed for ill-gotten gain and the rest of us is 'opportunity'.
For most of us who had a normal upbringing, the idea of taking other peoples stuff is not very satisfying....until of course you absolutely know you can get away with it.    (confession? yep)

MLKjr preached once "Everybody's doing it... just get by... most people today live by the 11th commandment, "Thou shalt not get caught".

Rom 3:23       "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

How impoverished life would be if we were left to wallow in that bewildering and woeful situation. The solution is found here....

Rom 6:23  (Bad news first) For the wages of sin is death,  (Now for the Good news!) but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

* Bakunin is what might be considered as a 'patron saint of Anarchism'.... He had all these whiz bang utopian  ideas about social revolution and socialism blah blah...but in the end this drongo is just as much a blithering bozo racist as the next person:

He spoke at a meeting organised by Lelewel in February 1848 about a great future for the Slavs, whose destiny was to rejuvenate the Western world

Woah!....hmm.. choke... I seem to remember a certain high profile leader by the name of Adolph Hitler who had the same ideas about the German Ayrans being the master race.  I wonder how many wannabe anarchists in Melbourne and Australia there are who glorify and pay intellectual homage to Bakunin's memory somewhat like ancestor worship, but who fail to realize he was just yet another racial supremacist who saw his own kind as the leaders of the future of the world!
