NeuroPolitics and Crime. Hmmmm

I've long maintained that the secular evolutionary/biological model for the human being is fraught with problems about morality. It goes something like this: If we are just organisms which are a result of evolution, not creation, then such things as 'morality' do not exist. Therefore, the only hindrance on our personal conduct will be our 'law'.
This in turn leads to the 11th commandment "Thou shalt not get caught"...

Here is an article which seems to provide the most up to date information on the Brain and Morality. It's hard going.. solid neuroscience and psycho babble, but I think we can grasp it.

Essentially they seem to be saying that our 'dopamine reward' system in the brain is closely linked to other parts of the brain that relate to our social interaction.

Ok.. if that's the case, we should all be only interested in positive 'warm fuzzy' social experiences because our brains have 'evolved' to stop us from doing socially negative things because there is no dopamine reward associated with such behavior.

Now.. how can any one explain the serial killer?

There is only one possible way.....his brain is mis-wired, and we must not punish him for what he did, but only restrain him from doing it again....and most of all, we cannot 'hate' or despise a man who was turned on by murdering our wife or children.....he is not 'evil'....just misunderstood.

Personally, I think that the best explanation for bad behavior and indeed any behavior is our predisposition toward sin.  *OUCH*...one of those nasty 'theological' words .... well.. I won't try to persuade you about this here.. I'll just state it as truth.

Until...next time
