The Pen is mightier than the sword, but the Pen must sometimes move the sword against corruption if the corrupt are not moved by the pen.. An idea without an implementer is useless. "The Rulers do not carry the sword in vain"Rom 13:4

The Political Life and Death of Paul Howes.

Paul Howes is a high profile Leftist Union identity in Melbourne, Australia.
He began his political pilgrimage as a youthful fiery fanatical follower of the Marxist group "Melbourne Resistance" and a devotee of the so called Democratic Socialist Party. Then he decided at 16 to visit the 'promised land' -Cuba, to see how Marxist revolution and ideals had been translated into reality by the  regime of his ideological 'Uncle' and El Presidente for life, Fidel Castro.
Unfortunately, when he arrived, instead of finding the 'promised land'..he found the land of poverty for the people, privilege for the politicians, and that power was maintained by the barrel of the machine gun. Oh... My....Marx!  He encountered a stunning ideological culture shock.

Disillusioned and dissappointed, he brought his crisis of communist faith back to Melbourne as an inner born again capitalist. But he knew he couldn't talk the talk of a capitalist, he could only walk the careful and sneaky walk so he garbed his public pronouncements in  grannies clothes of communism, and kept on talking in public about the politics of Marx while following the methods of Machiavelli on his new direction from ideological  destitution to the delights and sumptuous extravagance of boardrooms and backroom deals.

Now he is a 'director' of superannuation funds, is the National President of the Australian Workers Union, a position he has held since his new birth back in the days when, as a high school dropout he went on his pilgrimage of enlightenment to Cuba.  He also 'serves' on a number of Government boards.

What does this teach us?  I guess that you can be a feral flunk-out student, a rabid revolutionary ratbag without an education, yet, you can rise to the dizzy heights of managing superannuation funds  and as a member of the powerful National Executive of the Australian Labor party, telling Governments how high to jump, and making a sizable stash of cash along  the way, all of this without having done a days decent labor in your life it seems.

Yep... my head is itchy, and it needs a scratch.

MLKjr once said:

“You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid…. You refuse to do it because you want to live longer…. You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot at you or bomb your house; so you refuse to take the stand.

Well, you may go on and live until you are 90, but you’re just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.”

That ship sailed long ago for Howes. He was politically stillborn under the midwifery of Marx,  the 'great principle' eluded him then, and has vanished now.  He is left standing on the pier, counting his capitalist sheckels while the proven principle of providence sails off into the distance. There is a principle that we can all learn from......and it's been around for quite a while.

"You can fool some of the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time" (Lincoln)

As we unflinchingly  explore the rugged promontories of human life and boldly trudge up great mountains and and down the  valley's of idea's,  we should be humbled before our Creator.

"He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)
